Fourth graders are learning to summarize. Today we worked on summarizing an article about blue whales. To summarize, students first read an article, then go back and highlight the most important ideas. Next, they rewrite the principal ideas using their own words, and then finish by carefully reading over and proofreading their work. Summarizing is an important fourth grade skill.

3. Read for half an hour. Some students need to get caught up on AR.
4. Get a parent initial.
